Who / What / Where / When / How / Why?

Posted by drew on Wednesday Aug 20, 2008 Under strandup

Strandups are Strands‘ new meetups that we’re taking coast to coast and everywhere in between.

What is it?  It’s a gathering where every single person gets 30 seconds to talk about themselves.   What music they like, what other tastes they have…anything.   After they talk, then you can approach them and make friends!  Think speed dating but without the dating (but you never know!).   Strands prides itself on making recommendations to you, helping you find the things you might like but haven’t found yet.

So now we’re bringing into the real world with Strandups.

Our first one will be in Seattle during the Gnomedex conference.   Interested in attending?  Email me at Drew at Strands dot com

Very cool! Would love to be in Seattle for this first one… lets bring it to Portland soon:)

I’m sad I’ll be out of town for what sounds like an exciting inaugural event! A quick note for anyone who is going to be in town and planning to attend: you can augment your 30 second strandup pitch with 30 seconds of fame on the Community Collage (or CoCo) that Strands Labs Seattle recently deployed Trabant. Visual representations of your tastes can be added to an ambient collage of photos and quotes on the big screen in the cafe … but only if you go to the cafe (it is a place-based social networking service for physical communities, rather than a more general SNS for virtual communities). Hope you all enjoy the speed friending!
